Speculation persists that 25 year old Argentinian striker Fernando Cavenaghi is to leave Ligue 1 team Bordeaux to join the Liverpool side, when the transfer window opens in January.
Likely to cost Liverpool in the region of £12 million, if the rumours prove to be true then this spells the end for Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt (wanted by Bundesliga side SV Hamburg) as Liverpool aren’t in a position to make a purchase without selling first.
Despite Cavenaghi’s scoring record, last season scoring 22 goals for Bordeaux in only 35 appearances (after joining Bordeaux from Russian side Spartak Moscow in January 2007), and this season scoring 10 goals in 9 appearances (which gained the striker a position in the Argentine national side), surprisingly it seems that Liverpool is the only big club paying attention, according to French sources.
Despite the denial of any link between Liverpool and Cavenaghi by the French media, sources inside the club are concerned that such speculation will act as a catalyst and expect him to leave.
