HARRY REDKNAPP is going head to head with Italian giants AC Milan in a battle to sign David Beckham.

Portsmouth boss Redknapp revealed he is considering a last-minute move to snatch Becks from UEFA Cup rivals AC with the lure of Premier League football.

And Redknapp reckons Mrs Beckham will prefer the shops of Portsmouth to the stylish boutiques of the Italian city.

Seven-time European champions Milan are close to agreeing a loan deal for the LA Galaxy star, starting in January, but ambitious Redknapp refuses to give up.

He admitted: “I’m sure his missus would enjoy the shopping in Portsmouth far more than in Milan. David is a player I think about and you can’t tell me he wouldn’t make some great crosses for Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe.

“He is a terrific player. I haven’t made an enquiry but maybe I will do. David wants to play football, he is still in great nick. He would be a good loan signing. I would take him for sure.”

Former England captain Becks, 33, wraps up his MLS season with Galaxy this weekend and has been told by Fabio Capello to test himself in Europe to keep his international dream alive.

The veteran midfielder is two games away from passing Bobby Moore’s tally of 108 England caps but the standard of US soccer does not impress national coach Capello.
