Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, whose team have won 8 consecutive games, has drawn a lot of praise from football pundits. However, the ex-midfielder has written off any chance of the current side repeating the club’s success in the nineties with the ‘Dream Team’
“We will never arrive at that level, as much as we would like to, that side is unrepeatable.”
“Right now all the teams have good players, good coaches and are doing things well and that is what I try to transmit to my players. So they know that only with work, effort, dedication and sacrifice can we achieve our goals,”
Although currently leading the Champions League and fourth in La Liga, Guardiola seems sceptical of their chances and anything but complacent.
Speaking about Barcelona’s 5-0 win over Basel, he is quoted as saying:
“When a team wins in such a manner it tends to flatter and confuse things. One must take it with moderation, knowing that we won 5-0 but that we scored two very quick goals and that helps the game.”
“Right now there are three teams ahead of us in the league and we only have five points more than Almería [their next opponents]. We are simply contenders and Real Madrid are the ones with must dethrone,”
