Wenger to strip Gallas of captaincy?

Arsene Wenger is reportedly furious over Arsenal captain William Gallas’ comments on the disharmony within the team.

The 31 year old defender’s autobiography has also just been released in France today, which may explain the motivation behind the star’s outburst.

Gallas had said:

“As captain, players come up to you and talk to you about a player, complaining about him. And then, during the match, you speak to this player and the player in question insults us,”

“There comes a time when we can no longer comprehend how this can happen. I am trying to defend myself without giving names. Otherwise I’m taking it all.

“It’s very frustrating. I’m 31, the player is six years younger than me. There are things that can’t be said and can’t be tolerated.”

The only possible players Gallas can be referring to are Sagna, Emmanuel Eboue or Robin van Persie, who at 25 years of age are all 6 years younger than Gallas.

Although Arsene Wenger is yet to comment on Gallas’ diatribe, it is another event that has led for calls to remove the captaincy. As The Times comments:

‘Wenger, a stickler for the sanctity of the dressing-room, is furious that internal problems have been made public and is understood to have said as much to Gallas in a meeting at the club’s training ground yesterday,’

‘Wenger will not take any action before tomorrow’s Barclays Premier League visit to Manchester City but he plans to review the captaincy over the next couple of weeks, with Cesc Fabregas and Gaël Clichy the most likely successors.’
