Benitez to bring back Owen and Heskey?

According to The News of the World, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is rumoured to be considering bringing Michael Owen back to Anfield in January with a £2million signing. Although Newcastle star Owen is also being considered by Spurs and Manchester City, it is likely that the 28 year old would prefer a Liverpool move.

Owen is currently in the final 6 months of his contract with Newcastle United, and although interim manager Joe Kinnear has stated he intends to keep Owen at the club, owner Mike Ashley’s inability to find a buyer for the club may encourage Owen, along with others, to make a move.

Rafa Benitez has also been rumoured to be considering a return for former Liverpool player Emile Heskey:

“I don’t know how much I can spend because we have not really talked about it,” Benitez commented

“It could be OK if I bring nobody in but I might be able to sell some players. It depends on the interest.”

“The first thing we want to talk about is my contract.

“Once we finalise this we can talk about the future. We have more than a couple of players that we have to decide about for the future.”
