Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be planning to bid for Chelsea’s 23 year old forward when the January transfer window opens. Wenger’s original bid in the summer was rejected by Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari and the chance of Scolari giving up a player to rivals Arsenal, particularly after being losing to Arsenal in a crucial match which leaves this with the possibility of a title win, seems unlikely. Lack of capital at Arsenal also appears to pose a problem.

Rumours nevertheless persist that an £11m bid will be made in the New Year. However, given Wenger’s comment on the player on the 28th November on Arsenal’s official website it seems highly unlikely:

“We were interested in him but it didn’t go very far,” said Wenger. “Would I be interested again in the future? Not necessarily now, no.”
