31 year old French national and former Arsenal star Thierry Henry has agreed an £8m divorce settlement with his ex-wife Claire Merry. Henry is rumoured to be worth £25 million and at his current club Barcelona he earns £130,000 per week. Although the pair had been granted a fast-track divorce in September 2007 after Thierry’s ‘unreasonable behaviour’

A source close to the pair said:

“Claire is delighted. Neither she or Thierry wanted to go back to court as they are both now moving on with their lives. She is happy with the conclusion. She said it is close to the £10million she wanted.

Merry had intended to receive a higher payout, attempting to receive a payout of the Frenchman’s future earnings but the player’s lawyers argued that Henry was already operating at the top of the game before the pair met and as a result her claim would be limited.

Henry has struggled at Barcelona and this was rumoured to be as a result of the ongoing divorce settlement, now that he can focus on football once again we can look forward to a return to form.
