The 74 year old Chelsea advisor Piet de Visser has revealed that the Blues wanted to sign midfielder Marouane Fellaini before he moved to Everton for a club record fee and an overall record fee for a Belgian player. Visser also added that many of Fellaini’s former teammates at Standard Liege have sparked the interest of Chelsea staff:
“I’m not here for one or two players in particular, but just to get everyone in the system,”
“We are going to look everywhere in Europe.
“Standard are a team we are closely monitoring. Fellaini was also high on our list when he left for Everton.
“Standard are currently doing very well. They have a handful of interesting guys such as [Axel] Witsel, [Steven] Defour and [Milan] Jovanovic.
“But again that does not mean that we need them right away. You have to follow them. Now it’s only a matter of scanning and mapping.”
The 21 year old Fellaini has scored three times for Everton and won the 2008 Ebony Shoe for his work with Standard Liege, a footballing award given to the best player of the season of African decent.
